RE: The tariff classification of leaf chain from Japan.

Dear Mr. Garcia:

In your letter dated October 25, 2011 you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The product to be imported, Part Number MN183896, is described as “Chain, Engine Oil Pump Drive”. This leaf chain contains no rollers, has a pitch of approximately 7 mm and consists of more than 3 parts per pitch. You state that this chain is used as a service part on certain Mitsubishi engines.

The applicable subheading for the leaf chain will be 7315.12.0020, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for chain and parts thereof, of iron or steel, articulated link chain and parts thereof, other chain, of not over 50mm pitch and containing more than 3 parts per pitch. The rate of duty will be free.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
